If you are still using dvds, you might feel like you are missing out on the new hd dvd format. There are dvd players that upconvert your dvds making the quality look much more comparable to the new hd dvd format. However, all you need is a lcomputer and ffdshow to start improving the qualities of the dvds and divx files you already own.
Required: The latest version of FFDShow.
You need to open the configuration of FFDShow. Just go to Start - All Programs - ffdshow - Video Decoder Configuration
1. First step is to set the priority of the filters.
2. Drag “Blur & NR,” to the top of the list.
3. Also drag Resize & aspect just underneath Blur & NR
Configuration
1. Click on “Blur & NR”
2. Select “denoise3d” at the bottom of the config page.
3. Slide the first two sliders so they are both at “7.00″
4. The last slider should be slid till it hits “5.00″. Also make sure to tick “HQ”
1. Click on “Resize and aspect,” settings.
2. Click on the box next to “Resize and aspect.”
3. Set the Specific size. My computer is slow so I use 1280×720. You could try all the way up to 1920×1080 for the best picture. Try different resolutions to maximize performance.
4. Make sure to select “No aspect correction” (its at the bottom)
1. Click on the “settings” tab of “Resize and aspect”
2. For Luma method choose Lanczos.
3. On the right slider select “Parameter” 10.
4. Set “Luma Sharpen” and “Chroma Sharpen” to 1.50 for both.
Save your settings and you should be finished.
Results of DVD Upconvert?Â
Overall this leads to sharper and better dvd picture, especially when viewing it on a larger screen. Even my small 19 inch monitor shows signs of improvements when I upconvert dvd with ffdshow.
For a comparison, compare this image 1 with image 2. Ultimately just a much sharper picture.
