They stream straight from the site. With the free trial, you only get 2 hours of saved recorded programming and each program can be at max 30 mins long. There is a paid option, but for $10 per month you can get 10 hours of recording. Essentially that means 10 hours of stored programming.
Zattoo
Zattoo offers live German programming, but you have to live in Europe to use it. I tried getting it to work back in the US, but finding a proxy for German or Switzerland that actually works is next to impossible.
