You don’t have spend a lot to get a projector. Getting a projector all has to do with the bulb used inside the projector. There are currently two projector bulb hacks that will decrease the cost of getting a projector.
The reason most projectors are so expensive has to do with the bulb inside the projector. Consider that it most projector bulbs cost upwards of up to $300 or more to replace. Of course the projector bulb is the vital component to how bright your image is going to be.
So what does this have to do with getting a cheap projector?
Do it yourself projects: In a previous post, I wrote about various guides toward building your own projector. Not only are you saving because you are using your own materials, but you’re not using one of those expensive bulbs.  Of course if you read that guide, you might want to read about building your own screen as well. (Every good projector needs a good projector screen.)
The Projector Bulb Hack
1. The Home Depot Method: Required (1) $10 250 Watt Halogen Work Light. You’re
basically taking everything apart. Drilling a hole in the back to insert the power cable. By the end you’ll have inserted the Halogen Light where the projector light once was. The full guide can be found here on instructables.
2. The Car Halogen Method: Actually this hack was created by the same author, but decided that this method might actually be a bit more expensive and overall less effective. You can read his guide here.
Getting the cheap projector
I’ve decided against building my own and rather what I do is look for projectors with burnt out bulbs on Ebay. All you do is, use this hack to get a cheap bulb, after you’ve just bought a cheap projector because the bulb was burnt out. You might actually save more doing this than building your own. (Plus it’s way more portable.)
