Zattoo has now started carrying BBC One, BBC Two, ITV Online in it’s online selection of channels. But, Zattoo apparently added the channels online without exclusive permission from the BBC.
In a statement the BBC said: “We have not entered into any formal agreements with Zattoo to redistribute BBC channelsâ€. ITV said: “We wouldn’t rule out third party deals, but there aren’t any in place at the momentâ€. Channel 4 said: “We don’t have any formal arrangements with Zattooâ€. Five said: “The inclusion of the Five service on Zattoo has not been authorised or licenced by Fiveâ€.
However to allow users to watch BBC One, BBC Two, and ITV Online the BBC insists that it does not need to get permission. According to Zattoo “We work on the same legal rules as cable retransmission. We just take the signal as is, unaltered, and the laws do give special provisions for that.”
Currently BBC One, BBC Two, and ITV is only available to view in the UK, with no further plans for the USA due to licensing.
