Waiting in the longest line ever has never been funnier. Two SNL (Saturday Night Live) Stars star in this internet series about waiting in line for a show, a geeky Star Wars like show where the entire show takes place waiting in line. The writers of “the Line” had no time to mess around as each episode lasts only around a 3 and a half minutes.
Unlike many online shows relying on after dvd sales or text links on the website, The Line, produced by Broadway Video (Lorne Michael’s company), and features tons of product placement which in turn pays for the series. You’ll notice for example in one scene where they pan down from the movie to the newly released “Step Brothers”.
There are ways to monetize internet video without just interrupting the video with ads, though the subtle approach that “the Line” uses.
By using three networks to showcase their videos, they have gained about 15,000 views per episode, which while not so great, goes to show that using multiple networks can help. Even 15,000 views is enough to to be marginally profitable.
