A new PlayStation 3 gadget from Sony will make possible the ability to watch tv, plain and simple, on any PlayStation 3.

PlayTV will be available starting mid-September 2008 in Germany, Britain, France, Italy and Spain and later in other PAL regions. According to the manufacturer the package will enable everything from a large variety of free channels and the ability to record broadcasts and the Play mode can also be play shifted allowing you to watch PlayTv when it is convenient.

David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe: “The introduction of PlayTV is to further strengthen the role of PS3 in the entertainment sector. PS3 already offers high-definition gaming, movies on Blu - ray Disc, music, videos, photo albums, surfing the Internet and support for PLAYSTATION Network. The advanced TV tuner and recording functionality of PlayTV make PS3 now the ideal home entertainment center for the whole family. ”

Sony PlayTV for PlayStation 3 Functions:
– Two digital TV tuner (HD-ready)
– Electronic Program Guide: This is a user interface with a seven-day overview for programming the recorder functions of PlayTV. The operation is done with the Siaxis control of PS3 or the Blu-ray remote control.
– Compatibility: PlayTV works with the many varieties available DVB-T format (Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial).
– User-friendliness: Intuitive controls, help button instructional videos and a simple navigation guarantee a comfortable service, which significantly from the complex navigation of other hard disk recorder market.
– Flexibility and expandability: the PlayStation Network features updated and can be added.

Play TV for PlayStation 3 will be available starting September 17, 2008 at a price of 102.95 euros (MSRP).
