Slingcatcher has been launched allowing you to a) Watch video from your Slingbox. b) Watch video from the Internet.c) Watch video from your PC. All three of which are streamed from the Sling Catcher to the tv. The Slingcatcher’s main design is make watching tv on your actual old tv, easier and efficient with minimizing the amount of cables etc. needed to get everything from off the computer and internet and into the living room.
There are however a number of reasons why we don’t think the Slingcatcher will outshine the Apple TV. a) No harddrive. The apple tv comes preinstalled with a harddrive for show shifting which the Slingcatcher does not. b)The Slingcatcher retails at $300 while the Apple TV sells at a mere $100.
Still Slingcatcher might be worth it since it does support Hulu, YouTube, Joost, as well as the main feature, Slingbox Streams. Anyone streaming cable from somewhere else online, and looking to replay Hulu, YouTube, and Joost on their tv, might just very well find the Slingcatcher to be an easy solution to cut out their cable box.
