United States Switch to Digital TV, Households Not Ready For Digital TV Switch

By admin | Oct 16, 2008

Are you ready for the switch to all digital broadcasts in the United States?  Nielsen Says 9.6 Million Households are not ready for the switch to digital tv. When nielson did digital tv research, they indicated that the number of households not ready for the switch decreased just 1.4 percentage points between May and September.  It seems likely the cable company will be able to use this fact to try to capture that 9.6 million and offer them a cable package designed at getting their tvs ready without buying any equipment.

For those of you who don’t know, the US is planning to phase out analog broadcasts completely and require open television broadcasters to broadcast in HD only.  This leaves most old tvs incompatible since they don’t have a digital tuner. Citizens can register to recieve $40 off of a digital to analog converter box by signing up at DTV2009.org. Walmart has beens selling a tv convert box for about $49.99, costing only $9.99 after the coupon.  Even if you have cable tv, it might be worth looking into since it could be used for a spare television or anytime your cable tv has problems.
