In Area 88, we hear about the experiences of a young pilot and what happened to him in Area 88, a mercenary air force stuck in the desert of a war torn country. Pilot Shin, rather than face getting executed for deserting the Area 88, he turns into a fighter pilot and serves out a 3 year contract.
The original OVA trilogy was first released between 1985 and 1986 on videotape and laser disc. For this reason, many of the releases on the internet still have that tape quality to them, having been recorded directly from VHS tape.
