Movies like Gran Torino and Slumdog millionaire have been released to watch online before even reaching the theater. It seems Hollywood Academy members are happy to provide their screening copies online, many of who received a dvd screener copy before the film even touched theaters.
You’ll notice the movies Gran Torino, Slumdog Millionaire, the Wrestler, Defiance, Seven Pounds, Revolutionary Road, Milk, Che Part One, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon all released on dvd quality all with some of the movies not even in theaters yet, and many only newly in theaters.
The best place to look is either through bit torrent or a service like Graboid. Since many of these films are not yet in theaters, the only copy available is the screener copy.
