Both Abbott and Costello started off as burleque comics and which is how they ended up meeting. The two first worked together in 1935 at the Eltinge Burlesque Theater on 42nd Street. NBC signed them to a contract and after their second film, Buck Privates, from 1941, they were box-office stars. The two made36 films together between 1940 and 1956.
